MSU to host national expert in methods to increase college students’ motivation, engagement and performance
Omid Fotuhi, a national expert in methods to increase college students’ motivation, engagement and performance, will give a public presentation at Montana State University and lead workshops for faculty and staff on
Wednesday, Dec. 16.
The public presentation, set for 8:15-9:30 a.m. in SUB Ballroom A, is specifically designed to address MSU personnel who interact with students and will include a review of research describing successful initiatives to improve student engagement and persistence. Fotuhi will also describe the efforts of the College Transition Collaborative, a Stanford University-based research initiative, to change students’ attitudes about learning. He will then detail specific techniques that can be used in faculty and staff interactions with students to effect similar changes.
The presentation will be followed by workshops for faculty and staff that will be focused on tools and techniques to help lead to higher student performance.
Fotuhi is project manager for the College Transition Collaborative, which helps universities develop tools and techniques that have been shown to significantly increase student persistence and performance by changing how students think about their education. The collaborative includes 20 partner schools, including Yale University and Indiana University.
Individuals who are interested in attending the public presentation are encouraged to RSVP to Anna Reardon at (406) 994-6195 or anna.reardon@montana.edu.
Faculty and staff who would like to participate in a workshop should contact Reardon to reserve a spot.
Fotuhi’s visit is hosted by the MSU Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Additional sponsors include the Center for Faculty Excellence and the Division of Student Success.
