On Thursday, November 19, 2015, a special fundraising event will be held at the Desert Rose Restaurant in Belgrade to benefit Willet Amundson (“Willy”), a native Belgrade resident and waitress at the restaurant
Proceeds will go towards paying Willy’s medical expenses. Willy, age 55, who had not had any recent health issues, suffered a heart attack on October 5th 2015. Willy has no medical insurance. Her hospital bill alone totals $27,000 covering her stay and a stent, as well as monthly costs for her medication.
Willy is the sole breadwinner for her family; her husband is on disability and she supports a son and foster son presently living at home. Though her doctors recommended no work for the next six months, Willy has started working again part-time because she simply cannot afford not to have an income. So, friends of Willy have come together to pitch in and help her get back on her feet.
We’ve put up a fundraising page on GiveForward.com (http://www.giveforward.com/fundraisers?query=Willy%20Amundson) so that the community can help with donations to The Willy Fund. We encourage friends and neighbors to go to the site and make any contribution that you can. All donations are appreciated. Our goal is to raise at minimum $5,000 by January 15, 2016.
All are invited on November 19th to come to the Desert Rose Restaurant for a spaghetti dinner and live auction to support The Willy Fund. Tickets for dinner are $15 per person (adults) and $7 for children. Great gifts will be auctioned, such as a one-hour massage by Nevada Thompson and a retro stereo by Ted Gable. The restaurant’s food rep, Sysco Matt, is personally donating ingredients to make pies to be auctioned that night as well.
Thursday nights also feature a music jam, so it will be a fun night packed with music, dancing, food, and the auction. Come one, come all — it’s a family friendly event. Your support will go a long way in helping one of Belgrade’s hard working and caring citizens through this challenging time.
Dinner will begin serving at 5pm and continue throughout the evening. The auction will be at 6pm, followed by the music jam at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at the Desert Rose at 27 Main Street, Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11am – 9pm. Tickets will also be sold at the door.
